Interior Outlines Steps to Conserve Monarch Butterfly

Prepared to work with agencies and organizations for conservation.

The Interior Department outlined the action steps last week that they will be taking to help preserve the western monarch butterfly. Secretary Deb Haaland and Senator Jeff Merkley made the announcement during the first-ever Monarch Butterfly Summit in Washington, DC, where science experts and policymakers highlighted how pesticides, deforestation, and extreme weather due to global warming have all contributed to the monarch’s 95% drop in population.

“There is no single cause for the extreme multi-decade drop in the western monarch butterfly overwintering population numbers,” stated the Interior Department’s spokesperson. “Conservation efforts are focused on an all-hands-on-deck collaborative approach, engaging a broad array of partners to enact large and small-scale conservation efforts for the benefit of monarchs and their habitats.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to guide Interior officials as they seek to steward His creation.
  • For Secretary Haaland to be led by the Lord as she leads the Interior Department.
  • For the president’s administration as they address environmental protections.
